Drinkware & Hard Goods
Laser Engrave
Permanent etched mark burned into metal or coated surfaces.
A focused laser beam removes a thin layer of coating or oxidizes the surface to create a permanent, high-contrast mark. The result is a clean, monochrome impression that won't fade, peel, or wash off. On stainless tumblers and bottles, the laser exposes the raw metal beneath the powder coat, giving a subtle silver-on-color look.
Best used for logos that need to last the lifetime of the product β corporate gifts, awards, and premium drinkware.
- Best for: Stainless steel drinkware, anodized metal, hard goods with a coated surface
- Colors: Single tone (the natural color of the substrate beneath the coating)
- Imprint area: Typically 2β3" wide on a single panel; one location
- Cost tier: Mid
- Art requirements: Vector preferred (AI, EPS, PDF). High-contrast black-and-white. No gradients or photos.
- Technical notes: CO2 or fiber laser depending on material. Permanent β cannot be removed. Final color depends on substrate (silver on stainless, raw aluminum on anodized).
Laser Plus
Premium full-wrap laser engraving β 360Β° around the product.
An extended version of standard laser engraving that wraps the imprint around the entire body of a tumbler or bottle. Same permanent, high-contrast mark, just dramatically more imprint real estate. PCNA's premium decoration tier.
Ideal when you want a brand name, logo, and tagline all to live together, or repeating pattern artwork that flows around the product.
- Best for: Stainless steel tumblers and bottles where you want maximum imprint coverage
- Colors: Single tone
- Imprint area: Full 360Β° wrap β up to 8" wide on a 20oz tumbler
- Cost tier: Premium
- Art requirements: Vector required. Designed to wrap cleanly β leave breathing room at seams.
- Technical notes: PCNA-specific premium method. Higher setup and per-unit cost than standard Laser Engrave.
Pad Print
Ink picked up by a silicone pad and transferred to curved surfaces.
A silicone pad picks up ink from an etched plate and presses it onto the product. Because the pad flexes, this method handles curved and irregular surfaces that screen print can't touch. It's the workhorse decoration for ceramic mugs, pens, coasters, and small drinkware.
Good for crisp, opaque logos in 1β2 spot colors. Each color requires a separate pass, so designs are kept simple.
- Best for: Ceramic mugs, plastic pens, coasters, small hard goods with curved surfaces
- Colors: 1β2 spot colors (PMS match)
- Imprint area: Typically 2" wide; one location per pass
- Cost tier: Low
- Art requirements: Vector with solid colors. No gradients. Specify PMS for color match.
- Technical notes: Each color = a separate plate and pass. Solvent or UV-cured inks. Drying time required between colors.
Digital Transfer
Full-color decals digitally printed and heat-applied to the product.
Artwork is digitally printed onto a transfer film, then heat-applied to the product. Unlike pad print or screen print, this handles photo-quality artwork and unlimited colors without per-color setup fees.
Best for short runs or designs that wouldn't be economical in screen or pad print β gradients, photos, complex multi-color logos.
- Best for: Drinkware, hard goods needing photo-quality or multi-color artwork in lower quantities
- Colors: Full color (CMYK + white)
- Imprint area: Typically 3β4" wide; one location
- Cost tier: Mid
- Art requirements: Raster (300 DPI) or vector. CMYK color space.
- Technical notes: Decoration sits on top of the surface (slight texture vs. engrave). Modern transfers are dishwasher-safe but not as bulletproof as engrave.
Digital Color Print
PCNA's full-color digital wrap β photographic, 360Β° around the product.
A digital inkjet process that wraps full-color, photo-quality artwork around the entire body of a tumbler or bottle. Think of it as a custom skin printed directly onto the product.
The premium choice when you need photographic imagery, gradients, or a complex multi-color design that wraps the whole product. PCNA-specific premium tier.
- Best for: Hydro Flask, premium tumblers, statement products where the imprint is the design
- Colors: Full CMYK photo-quality
- Imprint area: Full 360Β° wrap
- Cost tier: Premium
- Art requirements: Raster (300 DPI minimum) or vector. CMYK. Design the wrap with a seam in mind.
- Technical notes: PCNA-specific. Higher cost and setup than other digital methods. Excellent durability β UV-cured inks.
Apparel & Soft Goods
Screen Print
Ink pushed through a fine mesh screen β opaque, durable, and color-accurate.
Ink is forced through a stencil on a fine mesh screen and onto the product. One screen per color. The result is bold, opaque coverage that holds up to dishwashers (on drinkware) and hundreds of washes (on apparel).
The gold standard for spot-color logos. Cost-effective at quantity because the screens get reused across the run.
- Best for: Water bottles, mugs, tote bags, t-shirts, hoodies, any flat or gently curved surface
- Colors: 1β6 spot colors typically (more colors = more screens = higher setup)
- Imprint area: Varies by product β typically 3β4" on drinkware, up to 14" wide on apparel
- Cost tier: Low to Mid
- Art requirements: Vector with separated spot colors. PMS specified per color.
- Technical notes: Setup includes burning screens. Color count drives both setup fees and per-piece cost. Plastisol or water-based inks on apparel; specialty inks on drinkware.
Embroidery
Logo stitched directly into the fabric with thread.
A logo is digitized into a stitch file, then sewn into the garment using colored thread. The result is dimensional, tactile, and the most premium-looking decoration option for apparel.
Best for left-chest logos on polos, jackets, hats, and bags. Holds up to industrial laundry and shows zero fade over time.
- Best for: Polos, jackets, fleece, caps, beanies, structured bags
- Colors: Up to ~15 thread colors per design (PMS-matched within thread library)
- Imprint area: Typically 3.5" wide on left chest; up to 5" wide on back; caps limited to ~2.25" tall
- Cost tier: Mid to Premium
- Art requirements: Vector for digitizing. Small text (<0.25") doesn't embroider well. Fine details get lost.
- Technical notes: Digitizing is a one-time setup fee. Stitch count drives per-piece cost. Doesn't work well on very thin fabrics (puckering).
Deboss
Sunken impression pressed into leather, cork, or PU β no ink, just a tactile mark.
A heated metal die is pressed firmly into the cover material, leaving a permanent sunken impression of the logo. There's no ink, no foil, no color β just a clean, tone-on-tone mark that catches the light and reads as understated and premium.
The go-to decoration for leather and PU journals, padfolios, portfolios, and cork notebooks where a printed logo would feel cheap. Looks and feels like high-end retail stationery.
- Best for: Leather and PU journals, cork notebooks, padfolios, portfolios, premium soft-cover books
- Colors: Tone-on-tone (substrate color only β no ink or foil)
- Imprint area: Typically 2β3" wide on the front cover; one location
- Cost tier: Mid
- Art requirements: Vector required (AI, EPS, PDF). Bold, solid shapes β fine lines and small text (<0.25") get lost in the impression.
- Technical notes: One-time die charge for the custom metal stamp. Permanent and tactile β cannot be removed. Pairs well with foil stamping when color is needed.
Heat Transfer
Artwork printed on transfer film and heat-pressed onto the garment.
Artwork is printed onto a transfer film and then heat-pressed onto the garment. Modern heat transfers (DTF β direct-to-film) handle full-color photo-quality artwork without the per-color setup of screen print.
Ideal for short runs, multi-color designs, or one-off custom names/numbers (jerseys, team apparel).
- Best for: T-shirts, hoodies, performance wear, team uniforms with names/numbers
- Colors: Full color (CMYK + white)
- Imprint area: Up to 11" x 14" on garments
- Cost tier: Low to Mid
- Art requirements: Vector or 300 DPI raster. White base printed under colors on dark garments.
- Technical notes: Sometimes called DTF (Direct-to-Film). Sits on top of fabric β slight hand-feel vs. screen print. Modern transfers last 50+ washes.
HXD (Patch)
Pre-made woven or PVC patches applied to garments.
A separately manufactured patch (woven, embroidered, leather, or PVC) is sewn or heat-pressed onto the garment. Used when you want a defined, dimensional logo with a clear edge β think classic baseball cap front panels or jacket sleeves.
Premium-feeling, retail-look decoration. Higher setup, but a strong brand statement.
- Best for: Caps, jackets, premium apparel, bags where you want a retail look
- Colors: Varies by patch type β woven supports complex multi-color
- Imprint area: Patch size customizable, typically 2β4" wide
- Cost tier: Premium
- Art requirements: Vector. Specify patch type (woven, PVC, leather, embroidered).
- Technical notes: Two-step decoration: patch is made first, then applied. Patch manufacturing lead time adds to total production timeline.
Sublimation
Dye is vaporized into polyester fibers β full color, no hand feel.
Special dye is printed onto transfer paper, then heat and pressure turn it into a gas that bonds into polyester fibers. The dye becomes part of the fabric, not a layer on top β so there's zero hand feel and the print won't crack, peel, or fade.
The go-to method for performance apparel, all-over prints, and large format soft signage (flags, table covers, tent canopies).
- Best for: Polyester apparel (performance wear, jerseys), flags, table covers, tent tops, soft signage
- Colors: Full CMYK photo-quality
- Imprint area: Unlimited β true all-over capability
- Cost tier: Mid
- Art requirements: Raster (300 DPI) or vector. CMYK. Polyester or poly-blend substrate required (won't bond to cotton).
- Technical notes: Only works on white or light polyester. The fabric must be 65%+ polyester. Dye becomes part of the fiber β most durable apparel decoration.
Large Format & Signage
Dye Sublimation (Fabric)
Sublimation scaled up for tents, flags, banners, and table covers.
Same chemistry as apparel sublimation, but on industrial fabric printers running 60"+ wide. Used for any printed polyester fabric product: tent canopies, feather flags, fabric banners, step-and-repeat backdrops, table throws.
Gives you photo-quality, edge-to-edge color on washable, foldable fabric. Industry standard for trade-show graphics.
- Best for: Tent tops, feather flags, fabric banners, table covers, step-and-repeats, custom backdrops
- Colors: Full CMYK photo-quality
- Imprint area: Edge-to-edge, full bleed on any fabric panel
- Cost tier: Mid
- Art requirements: Raster at print resolution (typically 100β150 DPI at full size) or vector. CMYK. Provide bleed.
- Technical notes: Polyester fabric required. Pantone matching available but CMYK gamut applies. Color shifts slightly when dye bonds β proof first for brand colors.
UV Print (Direct-to-Substrate)
UV-cured ink printed directly onto rigid or flexible substrates.
A flatbed printer lays UV-curable ink directly onto the substrate β acrylic, foam board, PVC, aluminum, wood, even glass. UV light cures the ink instantly, creating a durable, full-color print bonded to the surface.
The workhorse for rigid signage, retractable banner panels, point-of-sale displays, and trade-show graphics.
- Best for: Rigid signs, foam board, acrylic, banner stands, retail displays, P.O.P. graphics
- Colors: Full CMYK, white, sometimes gloss/clear varnish
- Imprint area: Up to 5' x 10' on a single flatbed pass; larger via tiling
- Cost tier: Mid
- Art requirements: Raster at print resolution or vector. CMYK. Include bleed and safe zone.
- Technical notes: Ink cures instantly under UV β no drying time. Can print white as a base for dark substrates. Outdoor-rated with proper laminate.
Vinyl Cut
Solid vinyl cut into shapes and applied β durable, one solid color at a time.
Adhesive vinyl is cut into the exact shape of the logo or design by a precision blade, then weeded and applied to the substrate. Each color is a separate piece of vinyl, layered together.
Used for vehicle graphics, window decals, simple banners, and any application where a long-life, weatherproof, solid-color graphic is needed.
- Best for: Vehicle lettering, window graphics, simple outdoor signs, decals
- Colors: Solid spot colors (each color is a separate vinyl)
- Imprint area: Up to 48" wide rolls; larger via panel seams
- Cost tier: Low to Mid
- Art requirements: Vector required. No gradients or photos.
- Technical notes: Cast vinyl for vehicles and long outdoor life (5β7+ years). Calendared vinyl for short-term/flat applications. Premium laminates available for graffiti and UV protection.
